Trophy-Cup

Albert Ragle (1915 – 2010)

Albert Ragle was born in Bergen to Oskar Rubinstein (b. 1885 i Saldus, Latvia) and wife Rosa (nee. Dsenselsky, b.1889 in Poland). In 1919/20 the family moved to Kristiania (Oslo). After finishing secondary school Albert went to an upper secondary school, specialising in trade. He was also a competent amateur boxer. In 1935 he went on a show tour to several Norwegian cities together with the successful Norwegian pro-boxer Pete Sandstøl.

In November 1942 Albert fled to Sweden. He joined the Norwegian Police Forces and participated during the liberation of Finnmark in 1945. After the war Albert changed his surname from Rubinstein to Ragle. He married Sarah Buchmann from Trondheim and worked for many years as a manager in the manufacturing business.

Albert's parents, Oskar og Rosa, and both his siblings, Molly (b. 1913) and Viktor (b. 1922) were deported from Norway with the ship Donau on the 26th of November 1942. They all perished in the Holocaust.

The trophy-cup carries the inscription: «Nobel Herreekvipering AS v/ Jacob Feldmann, 1 Pr. Danseconkuransen», and was won by Albert Rubinstein in 1938. It’s a gift to the Oslo Jewish Museum from Alberts children, Renée and Bjørn Ragle.

Jacob Feldmann (b. 1891 in Kiev, Ukraine) who ran the Nobel Herreekvipering (men’s clothing store), was a Norwegian-Jewish businessman. He and his wife Rakel (b. Freimann) were murdered by Norwegian border guides en route to Sweden in October 1942.
