"Shtetl - A lost world"
Who were the Jews who came to Norway at the end of the 19th and the 20th century? Where did they come from, and why did they leave their homeland? What kind of history, culture and traditions did the Jews bring to Norway when they emigrated here?
In the exhibition "SHTETL – a lost world" we seek to answer these questions.
The story of the shtetls, the small and larger villages in the former Tsarist Russia with a predominance of Jewish inhabitants, is told through pictures, objects, soundscapes and music, character descriptions, scenery, texts and maps.
The exhibition is located in the museum's backyard, and is the first exhibition guests see on arrival at the museum.
