THE JEWISH YEAR

«The Jewish year – For Everything there is a Season»
Through the years, Jewish life has been closely tied to the celebration and marking of the weekly Sabbath and the many feast and holy days throughout the year. Celebration of these days has been carefully worked out according to the Jewish calendar and are an important backdrop to living and identifying oneself as a Jew.

The exhibition shows the various feast and holy days’ distinctive character through sound, pictures, artefacts and stories. You can acquire a lot of new knowledge about living traditions, religious and historical background here. We have also made a point of showing how the Jewish year has been – and still is – celebrated by Jews living in Norway today.

A separate contemporary wall will, in 20 interviews, give an important view of how Norwegian Jews experience living in Norway today, and their relationship to their own traditions.
